An inheritance in Italy, a family around the world.
I help international families settle Italian estates and plan their succession, in English and mostly at a distance.
Banks, notaries, the Revenue Agency, deadlines: I take care of the Italian side, so your family does not have to travel or decode it alone.

Where families usually call me
There is a house, a bank account or shares in Italy, and the heirs live abroad.
You own assets in Italy and want a will that works together with the one you have at home.
A foreign trust holds, or should hold, Italian assets, and your advisers need an Italian counterpart.

Which law applies to the succession?
Under the EU Succession Regulation, as a rule the law of the country where the deceased habitually lived. A person can choose instead, in a will, the law of their nationality.
Is a will made abroad valid in Italy?
Usually yes, if it respects the form of the country where it was made. To be used in Italy it is published by an Italian notary with a sworn translation.
Do heirs pay Italian inheritance tax?
Yes, on assets located in Italy, even if the deceased lived abroad. Spouse and children pay 4% on the value above €1,000,000 each.
Do we need to come to Italy?
Usually not. Most steps can be completed through a power of attorney signed in your country.
Is there a deadline?
The succession declaration is due within twelve months of the death. Banks and buyers will also wait for it before releasing or transferring assets.
Tell me where the assets are and where the family lives.
I reply personally within two working days.
